Paul and Sam Wedding
What a great time at Posada Royale Best Western in Simi Valley with Paul and Sam and their families. Luminary Photo took some great photos but we were so privileged to be apart of their wonderful ceremony and the beginning of a new family. Sam and Paul had so much fun and unlike many brides and grooms they weren’t at all nervous. They knew that this was just the start of their marriage. It is seldom that a couple sees this perspective at the start of their relationship. We wish them nothing but the best.
United Santa Barbara 2013
How often do we wish we could pick the brain of our favorite expert in a field? How often do we get to watch and learn from the best? With how busy our lives are I can tell you it is almost never. On a whim I was able to spend 4 days in Santa Barbara with 200 amazing photographers, designers and business experts.
We were there to learn more about our art, business and ourselves (as it turned out). I met some amazing people and had an amazing time. I am going to post about the trip and show some photos from this gathering in the coming weeks.
One of my favorite shoots was hosted by Tammy Nguyen Le of Tammy Nguyen Le Photography. Tammy is an expert at making women feel sexy then photographing that feeling. She is an expert in posing, creating scenes and settings where women can feel hot and sexy.
I have had several of my brides ask me about this type of photography. While not an expert I get the draw to these types of photos. They aren’t about being provocative they are about feeling beautiful.
I joked with many of the photographers at United that the reason why I became a photographer was because I hate having my picture taken. What better way to not be in pictures than to always be taking the picture that everyone wants. Tammy brought an amazing set down to the beach took one of the photographers there that day and just let her be sexy. She wasn’t a model but just someone that Tammy helped to feel her best.
I was able to see how to pose a woman that will make her feel comfortable about her body. Below are the results of this session. I think these images speak for themselves but I would love to know what you think.
Kayla and Chris “Save the Date” Photo Session
Had and unbelievably great time with Chris and Kayla taking their photos at Corriganville Regional Park in Simi Valley. One of the most critical times for a photographer happens long before the day of the wedding. As a photographer of people it is much easier to take pictures of people when you know something about them. At Luminary Photo we find it extremely difficult to show up the day of your wedding and make you look great. We insist on an engagement session so that we can get to know you and understand how you smile, what your good side is and the like. When we do this we know that when we photograph your big day we capture all the love and joy of the day and make you look great. Kayla and Chris opted to have our “Save the Date” session as well as the engagement session and these photos were the outcome. This is a short quick session where we are able to take some photos so that you can send out a quick postcard to your likely guests to save the date of your upcoming marriage. Enjoy and feel free to let me know your thoughts on the photos.
Jordan and Skye
I had the pleasure of working with these girls for their holiday photos. We ended up custom designing a card using several images and they turned out amazing. Take a look at a few of the pictures from the day.
Hire LA Rhythm Crew
A great friend Natascha Corrigan has a Wedding Band called LA Rhythm Crew. I did all of these photographs for them and I know they look great but wait till you hear how they sound. If you want something different for your wedding hire LA Rhythm Crew and watch people have a great time on the dance floor. Enjoy!!!
Great testimonials on Thumbtack
So for years I have been trying to find a way to have people who have their photograph taken post testimonials. It has been tough but Thumbtack has finally given me an option to gather my testimonials in one place. If you want to review my services let me know and I can send you the link. Or you can check out my Comments Off
Dave and Kathryn Wedding
We were able to spend the day with both dear friends and our latest wedding client. We started there around 11am and spent until 9pm getting everything photographed. Here are a quick few that you might enjoy. If you like a photo or an album use the Facebook like button below the photo gallery. You couldn’t have asked for an easier couple to work with and both of their families were awesome! Congrats to both of you and all of our love!

Perfect Photos
Here are some quick hints to make your pictures perfect.
Make sure to have an engagement picture session. This will allow you to get to know your photographer. More importantly, for your photographer to know you. We like to know if you are sensitive to light, blink a lot, have a favorite side or a favorite smile. Your photographer could get some background information on your family members if there is some tension between family.
When taking group shots remember to focus on the photographer. Contrary to popular belief, the adults are usually the ones not looking at the camera because they are trying to get the kids to do something. Children will do what they do. If the adults are not worried and looking ahead, it is easier to get that perfect picture when the munchkins do look up and smile.
Lightroom 3 by Adobe systems is out. Being a digital photographer this is a must have tool for me. Having been part of the Lightroom 3 Beta I have fallen in love with this program all over again. This is a program that I think everyone who takes a lot of pictures should be using. With this new version I am so excited about a couple of great features, though there are more than I can list out here. My first favorite feature is the new tethered feature. This means that when I am doing portraits or a product shoot I can see things on the laptop as I am capturing pictures.
My other favorite feature is the new vignette feature. Instead of just simply painting black to darken the edges of a photo and draw the attention of the viewer to center. Adobe has made the vignettes sensitive to highlights and color. It makes for a much better effect and it looks so much better. I will try putting up a sample of the new vignettes later in the week.
If you want to learn more about Lightroom or Photoshop I can’t recommend Kelby Training or Photoshop User Magazine enough. If you want to watch Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski show off some of the other new features check out the Lightroom 3 Learning Center. I love their stuff and they always do a great job explaining the new features of the latest Adobe products. Lightroom is one of those tools as a photographer that I just couldn’t live without.
